On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would like to invite you to t he Sixth International Symposium on Impact Engineering (ISIE2007) to be held in Korea on September 16-19, 2007. This 4-day symposium focuses on the experimental, theoretical and computational aspects of impact response of dynamic systems and structures as well as on the behaviour of materials at high rates of strain.

This symposium will continue the primary objective of the ISIE series, to provide a forum for the presentation of recent progress in Impact Engineering, both in terms of fundamental research and industrial applications. Previous symposia in this series have been held in Sendai (1992), Beijing (1994), Singapore (1998), Kumamoto (2001) and Cambridge (2004).

ISIE2007 will be held in Daejeon, located in the middle of Korea, which is the center of Korea¡¯s Science and Technology and also has many rich historical sites nearby. Specially arranged cultural tours are going to provide you a taste of oriental culture and unique Korean traditions.

I would like to invite each of you to submit your current research results and/or application practices to ISIE2007, as well as your intentions to participate in the conference. Your active participation is essential for a successful and rewarding conference. I am also pleased to inform you that accepted/selected papers will be published in the International Journal of Modern Physics B by World Scientific Publishing Co. or invited to submit the paper to the International Journal of Impact Engineering by Elsevier.

I am looking forward to seeing you all in ISIE2007, Daejeon, Korea.

Thank you very much.

Dong-Teak Chung, Ph.D, Professor
General Chair of ISIE2007
